Richard M. Schilling ("Dick"), 84, joined Jesus in heaven (on the third hole of God's golf course) on Sunday December 12 surrounded by his loving wife of 62 years, Eileen, his daughter and son in law, Sherry and Greg Harlan, his son and daughter in law, Rick and Jane Schilling, and his grandchildren (to which he is Boppa), Kayla and Andrew Harlan and Karissa and Alexandra Schilling.

Dr. Lajos Schmidt passed away peacefully in his home in Budapest on November 8, 2021, at the age of 101. He was born on April 23, 1920 in Budapest. A longtime resident of Evanston, IL, he was a prominent lawyer with Baker McKenzie from 1952 to 1993.

Robert Francis Nix, age 85, adored father and grandfather, passed away surrounded by family on December 14. Bob, a lawyer and former Cook County Circuit Court judge, was a longtime resident of Northbrook, IL, and part-time resident of Aspen, CO.

Cal Thelin, attorney and resident of Batavia, passed away Sunday, Nov. 28, 2021, after Thanksgiving weekend spent with grandchildren and family. He was 92.

Frederick J. Steffen, a lawyer, father, and lifelong resident of Elgin, IL, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2021, at the age of 87.

Marshall J. Hartman, age 87, passed away on September 21, 2021.
Marshall, recipient of the 2017 Illinois State Bar Association Laureate Award, was a 1957 graduate of the University of Chicago Law School. He was instrumental in establishing offices and policies for the defense of indigents in Cook County and across the United States. Among other positions, he was appointed the Public Defender for Lake County, IL, (1987-91) and he went on to lead the Capital Resource Center at the Office of the Illinois State Appellate Defender.
