The Illinois Bar Foundation, the fundraising arm of the Illinois State Bar Association, will hold its 20th annual black-tie Gala fundraiser on Friday, October 19, at the Four Seasons Hotel, 120 E. Delaware Place, Chicago.
During the event, Tyrone C. Fahner, a partner at Mayer Brown, will receive the foundation’s 2018 Distinguished Award for Excellence. Fahner is a former Illinois attorney general and has served as director of the Illinois Department of Law Enforcement and as an assistant United States attorney.

ISBA Mutual Chair Paula Holderman and President/CEO Jeff Strand congratulate the two surviving ISBA Mutual “founders,” Richard L. Thies, of Urbana, and Donald C. Schiller, of Chicago, on the 30th anniversary of the incorporation of the company. The third “founder,” Jerome Mirza, died in 2007. All three were ISBA presidents. ISBA Mutual has grown to nearly 7,700 insured lawyers and $80 million in admitted assets.

Ronald Mervin Gonsky, 82, died Sunday, July 1, 2018. He was born June 20, 1936.
The son of Janet (Klinsky) and Henry, Ronald was born on June 20, 1936 on the west side of Chicago, where he was raised with his brother, Paul, in a close extended family. He became the first college and law school graduate of his family. After a stint in the national guard, Ron spent 18 months traveling in Europe, North Africa, and Russia before starting his law office in Chicago.

Orland Park Police Chief Timothy McCarthy received the ISBA Law Enforcement Award on July 2 during an Orland Park Village Board of Trustees meeting. ISBA President James McCluskey and ISBA President Elect David Sosin presented the award.
The ISBA Law Enforcement Award was created to recognize sworn law enforcement officers for conduct that promotes justice and to distinguish those individuals whose service to the public brings honor and respect to the entire criminal justice system. It recognizes those who excel in law enforcement.
