    Jessica A. O’Brien wins contested election for ISBA Board seat; 23 elected to Assembly

    Election results are in and Jessica A. O'Brien of Chicago has won a contested race for a seat on the Illinois State Bar Association's Board of Governors. Electronic voting was again the preferred method of voting - this time by a greater than 10-1 margin (1,451 electronic; 123 written). All terms begin at the 2012 Annual Meeting.

    Umberto S. Davi of Willowbrook was the previously announced winner in the uncontested race for 3rd Vice President. He will become president of ISBA in 2015 after serving a year in each of the three vice presidential posts. Five Board members ran uncontested: James F. McCluskey (Lisle); Lisa M. Nyuli (South Elgin); Sonni Choi Williams (Peoria); Charles Y. Davis (Springfield); and Russell K. Scott (Belleville).

    Today is last day to vote in ISBA election

    VR Election Services, ISBA’s election provider, has e-mailed e-ballots to members with valid email addresses and mailed paper ballots to members without email addresses. If you haven’t received your e-ballot, please check your email spam under the suffix vres.us. If your e-ballot is not in your spam folder, or if you received an electronic ballot and want to vote by paper ballot, please contact VRES at (800) 218-4026 or by email at custserv@vres.us.

    Online voting ends at 4:30 p.m. CT on Monday, April 30. Paper ballots must be received at VR Election Services in Texas by 4:30 p.m. CT on Monday, April 30, 2012 in order to be counted.

    Full election results will be available on Illinois Lawyer Now on Friday, May 4, 2012.

    All members with their dues paid by March 1st are eligible to vote if there is a contested election in their area. The two contested elections are Cook County Board of Governors, and Cook County Assembly.

    Voting underway in ISBA election for Cook County Board, Assembly seats

    VR Election Services, ISBA’s election provider, has e-mailed e-ballots to members with valid email addresses and mailed paper ballots to members without email addresses. If you haven’t received your e-ballot, please check your email spam under the suffix vres.us. If your e-ballot is not in your spam folder, or if you received an electronic ballot and want to vote by paper ballot, please contact VRES at (800) 218-4026 or by email at custserv@vres.us. The last day to request a paper ballot is Monday, April 16, 2012.

    Umberto Davi elected as Illinois State Bar Association’s 3rd Vice President

    Umberto S. Davi, of Willowbrook, a principal in the Western Springs law firm of Davi and Associates, has been elected third vice president of the Illinois State Bar Association. He will serve one year in each of three vice presidential offices and become president in 2015.

    Davi, whose law practice concentrates in family law and real estate, was first elected to the ISBA Board of Governors in 1998 and was re-elected in 2004, 2008 and again in 2011. He has served on the ISBA’s 201-member Assembly and has been active on numerous committees.

    A past president of the Justinian Society of Lawyers, Davi has served as president of the Willowbrook Police Pension Board for more than 10 years and is a Willowbrook Village trustee. He also is a member of the Board of Trustees of The John Marshall Law School. A native of Italy, he helped establish the Sicilian American Cultural Association.

    Davi received his law degree from The John Marshall Law School, with Distinction, in 1982. A member of its alumni board, he was its president in 2005-06. He received his undergraduate degree in 1976 from Western Illinois University, in Macomb, where he was a member of the National Honor Society.

    ISBA election results are in - online voting a hit
    Election results are in and five candidates have won seats on the Illinois State Bar Association's Board of Governors. This was also the first time online voting was available for an ISBA election and members chose that method over written ballots by a nearly 10-1 margin (Electronic-3,565; Written-379). The Board members who were elected from Cook County are Umberto Davi, Western Springs; Christopher T. Hurley, Chicago; Stephen M. Komie, Chicago; and John Nisivaco, Chicago. Jennifer Walsh Hammer of Springfield was elected for the Under 37 - Downstate Board seat. Uncontested winners were Shari R. Rhode of Carbondale for Area 7 and Frank A. Sommario of Chicago for Under 37 - Cook. Richard D. Felice of Wheaton was the previously announced winner in the uncontested race for 3rd Vice President. He will become president of ISBA in 2014 after serving a year in each of the three vice presidential posts. Here are the Board election results (winners in bold):

Members receiving an e-ballot will have the option to request a paper ballot from VRES. Likewise, any member receiving a paper ballot will have the option to vote online. Instructions for requesting a paper ballot will be included in the e-ballot email, and instructions for voting online will be printed on the paper ballot.     Notice regarding online voting in ISBA elections
    As we near the 2011 election for ISBA offices, I want to give you advance notice of important changes being made - changes that can make it easier for you to cast your vote and that, over time, will reduce the cost of conducting elections for the Association. We are introducing the option of electronic voting for the first time this spring, and it is truly an option - all members will be able to choose to vote either electronically or by paper ballot. Here's what this will mean from your perspective: If you have provided ISBA with your email address, you will receive a ballot by email from our vendor, VR Election Services, along with instructions about securely casting your vote electronically. However, if you prefer, you will have the option to request a paper ballot after receiving the email. If you have not provided ISBA with an email address or if the address we have for you is not a valid, functioning address, you will receive a paper ballot and voting instructions through regular mail. Included with the instructions will be information about how to vote electronically if you so choose.
