The ISBA’s Rural Practice Initiative Committee created the Rural Practice Fellowship Program in 2020 to increase access to attorneys in rural areas of Illinois. The aim of the Program is to connect rural and small-town attorneys and law firms looking to hire summer law clerks and full-time associates with law students and attorneys interested in practicing law in rural communities in Illinois.

At the December 8, 2023, meeting of the ISBA Assembly, two “Under 35” Delegates to the ABA House of Delegates will be elected, one from Cook County and one from the area outside Cook County. The nominees for these positions must be members of the ISBA in good standing from the appropriate area and be under the age of 35 at the time the ABA term commences. The elected delegates will serve for two-year terms commencing June 2024 and will join the ISBA delegation at the ABA annual meeting scheduled for July 31 – August 6 in Chicago.

The Illinois State Bar Association’s Lawyer Finder Service provides referrals to local lawyers Mondays through Fridays. The Service makes referrals in a number of areas of law. For the month of October, 2023, ISBA helped 1,584 people in need of legal services find lawyers.

At its meeting on Friday, October 20, 2023, the ISBA Board of Governors formally adopted the following Resolution, which was originally drafted and adopted by the ISBA International and Immigration Law Section Council:
WHEREAS, the State of Illinois is hosting approximately 3,000 Afghans who have sought refuge in the State since August 2021; and
WHEREAS, as one of the largest state bar associations in the country whose members are representing many of these refugees, it is vital that the ISBA use its voice to urge a positive solution to this situation. For these reasons, the International and Immigration Law Section Council asks the ISBA to adopt the following resolution:

In coordination with 1973 - 2022: The Dobbs Decision event on October 5, the Women & the Law Committee of the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) is holding an in-kind donation drive to support The Period Collective, an organization based in Chicago that is dedicated to promoting menstrual equity by ensuring that all individuals have access to menstrual products.
