[caption id="attachment_7614" align="alignright" width="150" caption="Larry Chulock"][/caption] The Florida Bar will recognize ISBA member Larry Chulock for his work on behalf of poor and indigent clients at a Jan. 28 ceremony at the Florida Supreme Court. Chulock is a sole practitioner at Larry R. Chulock, P.A., in Bradenton. His principal areas of practice are marital and family law, banking and commercial litigation. He was admitted into The Florida Bar in May 1996, and is also admitted to practice in Illinois, the U.S. District Courts and the U.S. Courts of Appeals. Mr. Chulock has been active in pro bono service, primarily through Legal Aid of Manasota, Inc. He has been volunteering with the organization for the past five years, and at any given time he will be representing several Legal Aid clients in their complex family law matters. He has been described as one of only a handful of attorneys who is willing to accept the most challenging cases and doesn't limit his pro bono assistance to a single area. Some of his pro bono caseload has consisted of legal matters such as divorce, custody, visitation, child support and paternity. Mr. Chulock has donated time to a local TV station to tape a "mock mediation" focused on the new laws surrounding time sharing and parenting plans.

Longtime ISBA member Arthur Gorov passed away last week at his home in Montana. The Chicago native worked at the personal-injury law firm of Berkson, Gorov and Levin before heading up the legal research department for Cook County Circuit Court. He and his wife moved to Montana seven years ago. "He always declared eagles carried his heart with them," said Billie Lee, his wife, friend and companion of 31 years. Reeg Lawyers, LLC, a Mdiwest regional litigation law firm that focuses its practice on class actions, toxic torts, and products liability litigation, made substantial contributions of money and goods to the Project. The Pro Bono Project affords legal assistance to indigent clients in civil matters throughout the Parishes surrounding New Orleans.

Downs was inducted into the Stetson University College of Law Hall of Fame on October 24 in Gulfport, Fla. Bob Downs is the founding partner, with his wife, Barbara, in the Chicago law firm of Downs Law Offices, P.C., which focuses on family law. Downs has long been active in politics and the legal community. Early in his career, he was elected to the Illinois House of Representatives and spent considerable time, involved with independent political, public interest and consumer cases. He worked with the Church Federation of Greater Chicago creating legal clinics that later became the Chicago Volunteer Legal Services Foundation. In 1995, he received the American Bar Association's Family Law Pro Bono Services Award. He also received awards from the Legal Assistance Foundation of Chicago and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Chicago and Grinnell Colleges, distinguished Alumni Award. Downs served as President of the Illinois State Bar Association from 2005-2006.
