Trailblazing Justice Rita B. Garman has announced her retirement from the Illinois Supreme Court effective July 7, 2022. Justice Garman, 78, has served on the Supreme Court since 2001 and retires as the longest serving judge in Illinois. She served as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court from 2013 to 2016. The results were made available May 9 on ISBA's Judicial Elections page.

The bar admission ceremony for the 292 new attorneys who passed the February 2022 Bar Exam will be held online on Thursday, May 12, at 11:00 a.m. Chief Justice Anne M. Burke will preside over the ceremony and administer the oath to the new admittees. Justice P. Scott Neville will make the motion to admit the class and Justice Robert L. Carter will second the motion.

The Illinois State Bar Association’s Lawyer Finder Service provides referrals to local lawyers Mondays through Fridays. The Service makes referrals in a number of areas of law. For the month of April, 2022, ISBA helped 967 people in need of legal services find lawyers.
