    Jerald E. Jackson 1922-2016

    Jerald E. Jackson, 94, of Decatur, passed into eternal life at 9:24 p.m. Tuesday (May 17, 2016) at Decatur Memorial Hospital. 

    Jerald was born April 25, 1922, in St. Mary's, the son of Earl Lee and Nina Marie Walters Jackson. He married D. Miriam Schory on Feb. 28, 1944, in Chicago.

    Jerald graduated from Western Illinois University with a bachelor of science degree. He later graduated from the University of Chicago Law School with a juris doctorate, cum laude, receiving the Order of the Coif while there. From 1950 to present, he was a partner in Samuels, Miller, Schroeder, Jackson & Sly law firm in Decatur. Jerald was a member of the Illinois Supreme Court committee of Pattern Jury Instructions and the Illinois Supreme Court committee of Character and Fitness.

    James E. Gorman II 1930-2016

    James E. Gorman II, age 85, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 2, 2016, at his home in Edwardsville, IL. 

    He was born on November 9, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois; the son of the late James and Mae Catherine (Jiracek) Gorman. He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Beverly Ann Gorman. They were married on October 1, 1960, at St. Mary's Church in Edwardsville, IL. He is survived by three sisters, Marcella Gorman, Virginia Schweinberg (late Donald),and Patricia Kruger (John). Sisters who preceded him in death include Rosemary Leach (Chuck Leach) and Jean Hughes (late Robert).

    Jennifer Cifaldi Receives National Traffic Safety Award

    The National Association of Prosecutor Coordinators (NAPC) has selected Jennifer Cifaldi, Assistant State’s Attorney in Adams County, Illinois, as the recipient of its 2016 National Traffic Safety Prosecutor of the Year Award.  NAPC is the national association of Prosecutor Coordinators and staff who provide leadership, training, legislative advocacy and support services for America's state and local prosecutors.  NAPC, in cooperation with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), annually presents the award to a prosecutor who has worked tirelessly to save lives in impaired driving and vehicular homicide cases.

    Webber appointed Circuit Judge at Large in 6th Circuit

    Chief Justice Rita B. Garman and the Illinois Supreme Court have announced the appointment of Associate Judge Roger B. Webber as a Circuit Judge in the Sixth Judicial Circuit.

    Judge Webber was appointed earlier this week to fill the vacancy created by the upcoming retirement of Judge Arnold F. Blockman on September 16, 2016. His appointment takes effect September 19, 2016, and terminates December 3, 2018, when the position is filled by the 2018 General Election.

    Memorial Service honors late Justice Thomas R. Fitzgerald - video available

    The Illinois Supreme Court hosted a memorial service in honor of the late Justice Thomas R. Fitzgerald. Chief Justice Rita B. Garman gave the opening and closing remarks. Tributes were given by Supreme Court Justices Robert R. Thomas and Mary Jane Theis; Umberto Davi, president of the Illinois State Bar Association; and Nicholas J. Motherway, a Chicago attorney and close friend of the late justice.

    Illinois Supreme Court invites governor, legislators to special evening session

    Chief Justice Rita B. Garman and the Illinois Supreme Court have invited Gov. Bruce Rauner and the entire state legislature to attend a special evening session of oral arguments.

    The session will be at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at the Supreme Court Building in Springfield and will mark the second special evening session the Supreme Court has held in recent years.

    ISBA hosts 35th Ask A Lawyer Day

    Nearly two dozen volunteer attorneys helped answer hundreds of phone calls, emails and Skype calls at the 35th Annual Ask A Lawyer Day on Saturday, April 30. Those calls helped members of the public resolve their legal issues or gave them the next steps toward resolving those issues. The endeavor also garnered much positive media coverage throughout Illinois.

    On hand to answer calls in the Chicago office were (seated, left to right) Cynthis Koroll, Pamela Menaker and Alexas Collier; (standing, left to right) Daniell Saeddi, Kristi Vetri, Frank Soto and Joseph Kramer. Volunteers not pictured because they were still answering calls were Jeffrey Bunn, Joyce Wixson, Margherita Albarello, Alice Dolan and James Coogan. The ISBA would like to extend a hearty thank you to volunteers in the Chicago and Springfield offices.

    Terrence I. Stapleton 1948-2016

    Terrence I. Stapleton, 67, of Olympia, Wash., formerly of Springfield, Ill., died April 1, 2016, following a long illness.

    Terry was the son of the late John P. and Velma R. Stapleton. He was a 1966 graduate of Griffin High School and received his BA from University of Illinois at Springfield. 

    Terry served two years in the U.S. Army from 1970-72, after which he received his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Arkansas. 

    Terry was formerly employed at Central Illinois Light Co. (CILCO).

Kording has practiced law continuously in McLean County for over 10 years and graduated summa cum laude from Illinois State University and magna cum laude from University of Illinois College of Law.
