The Illinois Supreme Court has announced the assignment of Judge Margaret J. Mullen, Ret. to the 2nd District Appellate Court. Judge Mullen is being assigned to fill the vacancy created by the death of Justice Donald C. Hudson on April 11, 2023. The assignment is effective May 11, 2023, and will continue until June 1, 2027, or until further order of the Court.

With the official end of the COVID-19 public health emergency approaching on May 11, Chief Justice Mary Jane Theis and the Illinois Supreme Court recently announced amendments to orders entered in response to the COVID-19 emergency under M.R. 30370, In re Illinois Courts Response to COVID-19 Emergency. The Court also announced corresponding amendments to Rules 101, 102, 283, 284, and the adoption of new Rules 102.1 and 242. These and earlier amendments to Supreme Court Rules, make permanent certain temporary measures adopted during the pandemic.

In a groundbreaking innovation to aid attorneys in achieving Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) compliance, the Illinois Supreme Court announced today that Illinois now has an online MCLE transcript system. With this system in place, the MCLE Board will report compliance for attorneys once their online transcript reflects their MCLE compliance.

Jerome E. Larkin, the Administrator of the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission of the Supreme Court of Illinois (ARDC), the administrative agency that regulates Illinois lawyers, is retiring at the end of 2023. The ARDC is working in conjunction with global organizational consulting firm Korn Ferry to fill that vacancy.
