The Illinois Supreme Court has appointed the Hon. Liam C. Brennan as a Resident Circuit Judge of DuPage County, 18th Judicial Circuit. This vacancy was created by the pending retirement of the Hon. John T. Elsner on Dec. 1, 2014. It is effective on Dec. 2, 2014 and terminates on Dec. 5, 2016.

Chief Circuit Judge John T. Elsner is pleased to announce that following a tabulation of ballots by the Administrative Office of the Illinois Courts, the Circuit Judges of the 18th Judicial Court, DuPage County, have appointed Ann Celine O'Hallaren Walsh to the position of Associate Judge.
She fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Associate Judge Patrick J. Leston.
Ms. O'Hallaren Walsh received her J.D. from Chicago Kent College of Law in 1998 and is currently the Supervisor of the Sex Crimes/Domestic Violence and Child Abuse Unit for the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office. She is an active member of the DuPage County Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, DuPage Association of Women Lawyers and Illinois Prosecutors Association.

DuPage County Chief Circuit Judge John T. Elsner is pleased to announce that following a Sept. 25, 2014 meeting of the Circuit Judges of the 18th Circuit, two finalists for the Office of Associate Judge have been selected and certified to the Illinois Supreme Court. The finalists are seeking to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Associate Judge Patrick J. Leston.
From these names, the Circuit Judges will select one appointee by secret ballot:
Brian W. Jacobs, J.D.-Boston College of Law, Newton, Mass., 1996; admitted to the practice of law in Illinois, 1996. Mr. Jacobs currently is a Deputy Chief for the DuPage County Public Defender's Office (2001-present). Previously, he was an associate with O'Hagan, Smith and Amundsen (2000-2001) and an Assistant Public Defender for the Kane County Public Defender's Office (1996-2000). Mr. Jacobs is an active member with the DuPage County Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, DuPage Association of Women Lawyers and the DuPage County Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Retired DuPage County Judge Duane Gerald Walter, 88, of Bloomingdale passed away on Sept. 7, 2014. He was known for his love of conducting weddings.
Duane was born on January 8, 1926, in Des Moines, Iowa; moved to Chicago and graduated from Lake View High School in 1943. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and then obtained a law degree from Chicago - Kent College of Law in 1954. He had a distinguished career as an attorney before being appointed Associate Judge of the DuPage County 18th Judicial Circuit Court.
After retiring, Duane owned The Old Town Wedding Chapel in Bloomingdale, Illinois, for 16 years. Duane was an active member of the DuPage County Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association and the DuPage County Republican Committee.
He will be missed dearly by his wife, Beverly (nee Wise), children Gary (Katie) Walter, Linda (Jim) Rinella, Dawn (Paul) VanLaanen, Donna (Dave) Jansen, Bruce Walter, Lori Vanagunas, Lisa (Kirk) Schmitt, Dr. Kevin (Katie) Walter, Bob (Amy) Miller, sixteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Duane is preceded in death by parents Gerald and May (nee Peppmeier) Walter, former wife Lois Belle Gibbs, and sister and brother in law, Glenys and Joe Dombrowski.

The Circuit Judges of the 18th Judicial Circuit Court, DuPage County, unanimously elected Judge Kathryn E. Creswell to the position of Chief Judge. Judge Creswell's term as Chief Judge will commence on Dec. 1, 2014. Judge Creswell will succeed Chief Judge John T. Elsner.
Judge Creswell is a graduate of DePaul University College of Law. She was appointed as an Associate Judge in 1995 and was elected a Circuit Judge in 2002. Prior to her selection as Chief Judge, she had served as Presiding Judge of the Felony Division of the 18th Judicial Circuit.

Patrick Dempsey (center), a retired police officer who is director of the Jeanine Nicarico Children’s Advocacy Center, received a 2014 Law Enforcement Award from the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA) on July 24. ISBA President Richard D. Felice (right) presented the award as DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin looks on. Berlin nominated Dempsey for the award.
The ISBA’s Law Enforcement Award was created to recognize sworn law enforcement officers for conduct that promotes justice and to distinguish those individuals whose service to the public brings honor and respect to the entire criminal justice system. It is given to recognize those who truly excel in the field of law enforcement. In addition to Dempsey, four other law enforcement officers from judicial districts throughout Illinois are being honored.
